Glenelly defeated Loughmacrory on a score line of 0-9 to 0-8 on Wednesday evening last in a titanic tussle. This match represented the club’s 1st game in grade 1 at any age group.
Report by Ronan O'Kane
The home team began the brighter and got the first score of the game. However Glenelly began to get a foothold in midfield and Seamus Harkin converted this possession into points as Glenelly led 0-3 to 0-1. Loughmacrory didn’t give up and the rest of the half turned out to be a tight affair. Both teams exchanged scores as Glenelly took an interval lead of 0-6-to 0-5 thanks to a left footed Stephen Mc Bride effort, a cool finish by Fergal Lindsay and a sliced free kick by Conal Mc Cullagh. The 2nd half proved to be a tenser affair as tempers boiled over on more than one occasion. Despite contributing another point, Seamus Harkin was harshly dismissed. However Glenelly regrouped and the defence thanks largely to Tim Harney managed to survive intense pressure. Meanwhile forwards Kevin Mc Anena and Ronan O’ Kane added further scores. This win was based on a great team performance and work ethic.
