The weekend seen Glenelly Reserves secure another four points, on Friday night at home to Castlederg and Sunday away to Brocagh.
Glenelly v Castlederg
The Reserves made it six points after another great run on Friday night beating Castlederg. The first half saw Castlederg get of to a good start dominating most of the play and scoring some great points. After only several minutes John McCullagh sustained an injury and was replaced by Brian Conway. Castlederg continued to dominate however Glenelly managed to get two points on the scoreboard from Simon Cairns and Raymond McClosky. The score at half time Castlederg 0-6 Glenelly 0-2.
The second half saw some tactical substitutes by Glenelly Manager Paul Mc Nally putting sharp shooter Ronan O’Kane and Mickey McCullagh up front to cause bother among the Castlederg defence. Glenelly started to play good football and the skill which they had produced in the previous 2 games. Some excellent points were taken from Ronan O’Kane and Raymond McCloskey, O’Kane also hit the net twice while McCluskey converted another penalty and Eunan Lindsay beat the keeper for possession and taped the ball into the net. Castlederg also had their chances, hitting the bar near the end and scoring one past Declan McCullagh. Glenelly’s mid field was excellent with Fergal Lindsay covering every inch of ground and gaining support from Barry McBride and Barry McCullagh. Glenelly came out winners after a hard fought match.
Brocagh v Glenelly
Reserves showed another great performance on Sunday with their fourth win in a row beating Brocagh. Brocagh took the first scores in the game and looked like the were going to dominate in this game however after 10 minutes Cathal Sherrin broke through the defence to place the ball in the top corner of the net. From here on Glenelly started to perform and it was only moments later when Ronan O’Kane also hit the back of the net. Brocagh fought back hard and scored some beautiful points before finding the back of the net after a long range effort. Glenelly continued to play good football and points came from Barry McCullagh while O’Kane then flicked the ball past the keeper with his hand to score his second goal. All through the first half defence was excellent for Glenelly with great blocks from Martin McGrinder and Cathal Kearney while Barry McBride and Michael McCullagh helped carry the ball forward. The score at half time Glenelly3-4 Brocagh 1-6.
The second half saw Brocagh come out strong and they battled hard to try and dispose of Glenelly’s lead however Eunan Lindsay in middle of the park and Seamus Kirk in full forward made sure Glenelly would not fall behind and the scores continued to come.15 minutes gone in the second half Brian Conway broke through Brocagh’s defence to get denied a goal by Brocagh’s keeper. Conway however redeemed himself moments later with a point. Glenelly continued to dominate and Paul McGurk soon found the back of the net to put the game out of reach final Score
