The Under 14's lost out in the league quarter finals on Saturday with a two point defeat against Killeeshil. Glenelly took their time getting off their feet which led to Killeeshil gaining a good advantage.
It was a wet day in Plumbridge, the first game since the pitch was reopened and the grass just been cut. It was difficult conditions for playing football. Glenelly topped their league and were favourites to win this game. Killeeshil arrived in Plumbridge nearly an hour before the game was due to begin. On the game itself Killeeshil turned out to be the better team in the first half. It seemed Glenelly were still asleep but signs of them waking up at the end of the first half were evident. Glenelly continued to battle and it paid of after getting a goal. Glenelly were going into the second half 6 points down, but still in reaching distance. In the second half it looked a totally different Glenelly team. The lads were battling for every ball, attacking in numbers and hunting back when they lost procession of the ball. This hard work showed in the score board when they came within 3 points of Killeeshil . Although Killeeshil seemed to keep knocking over points Glenelly seemed to answer. At the final whistle Glenelly were unlucky to bow out of league 1/4 final after such effort. They feature in the 1/4 Finals of the Championship on Saturday when they play Naomh Mhuire in Plumbridge at 4pm. Final score on the day Killeeshil 2-10 Glenelly 2-8 |
