The GAA have confirmed that Mick Monahan of Kildare has been appointed to referee the Bank of Ireland All-Ireland SFC final between Kerry and Tyrone at Croke Park on Sunday September 25.

A former footballer of note, he won a Leinster Club SFC medal with Raheens in April 1982. He will be taking charge of his first All-Ireland senior final having been on the intercounty panel for the last seven years. He refereed the All-Ireland semi-final between Donegal and Armagh in 2003 and was also the man in the middle when Caltra of Galway beat Kerry’s An Ghaeltacht in the AIB All-Ireland Club final of 2004.

Among his credits this year are the Connacht semi-final meeting between Galway and Leitrim and the fourth round qualifier game between Tyrone and Monaghan in Croke Park.

The ESB All-Ireland MFC final will be refereed by Maurice Deegan of Laois. This will be his third All Ireland final this year as he already refereed the Intermediate Club final between Carbery Rangers and Pomeroy Plunkett’s and the meeting of Down and Galway in the Cadbury’s U21 final. A winner of two county championship medals with his club Stradbally, he has been on the intercounty panel for the last four years.

It was also confirmed that the Erin All-Ireland U21 Hurling final between Galway and Kilkenny will be held in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick on September 18.
