Glenelly Ladies bowed out the Ulster Intermediate Championship today after a narrow defeat in the hands of Insikieen. This was the Ladies First defeat this season.
Glenelly started of the better team with fast moving ball which Insikeen couldn’t cope with. A few quick scores and it seemed that the girls were settled in. A killer blow around the tenth minute when Insikeen booted home a goal. This rattled Glenelly’s cages and left the girls on edge. This give Insikeen the boost which the needed. Minutes after the first goal a second went in, then a third and then a forth. This was without reply from Glenelly until the 25th minute Glenelly got a point. In the second half it looked like a rejuvenated Glenelly side. From the first whistle Glenelly were all guns blazing. A quick goal got them fired up and looked like a remarkable comeback was on. Soon after Glenelly got a second goal. The crowd was going mad. The team was on a real buzz. Glenelly got caught up in the hype and Inskieen went up and put a dampers on their goals by getting one them selves. This didn’t stop this Glenelly side, the crowd really got behind them, FionaMarie Kearney came bursting through and hammered home another goal. Nothing looked impossible and Glenelly worked and worked and fought for every ball, kicking the ball over the bar. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be Glenelly’s day. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Glenelly GFC to congratulate the girls on their remarkable achievement. Wining Tyrone Intermediate Championship was absolutely brilliant and today they did their Club proud, their families proud and themselves. The work they put in all year has been tremendous, and their managerial team of Mickey Mc Bride and Ciaran Kearney. Thanks to all the supported who travelled all the way down to watch the girls, your support was much appreciated. Also thanks are extended to the Insikeen club for their hospitality it was top class.
