After a bright start Glenelly switched off! Rock took full advantage of this and punished Glenelly in front of the goals. After Glenelly registered their first score it took them 45 minutes to get their next..

A Kevin Mc Cullagh’s goal in the first five minutes was Glenelly’s only score of the first half. Many attempts to create scores were unsuccessful. The Rock were the hungrier team, this was evident from their intense tackling from the full forwards out and in many cases resulted in scores. Glenelly’s spell of dominance proved to be insignificant on the score line. Glenelly tried to work the ball in to the goal mouth and then attempting to shoot for a goal, this proved crucial as when the ball broke down the Rock went up the field and punished Glenelly.

Rock dominance started to kick in at the last quarter. Glenelly really felt the full prunt of this after conceding two goals within a short time period. Glenelly tried to convert several free kicks but were unsuccessful in their plea. Glenelly tried to increase the tempo but after time creeped up and they went into the changing rooms. Although Rock was in the lead, Glenelly had everything to play for.

The second half wasn’t much different. It was rolling in to the third quarter and Glenelly still hadn’t registered a score since Mc Cullagh’s goal. Rock were pressing forward on many occasion. Their work to get the ball up the pitch was incredible but their finishing product was not up to scratch, missing many scoreable free kicks.
Glenelly battled well though starting to find their feet after Cathal Sherrin settled the nerves with a well hit point. Unfortunately this was going to be the only score for the next 7 minutes. The midfield battle was always going to be important but Glenelly struggled to find their feet. Glenelly still kept in touching distance after Tim Harney struck the ball well to get it over the bar. This seemed to spur on the Rock, who immediately went up the field and popped the ball over the bar.

Glenelly kept battling well to the final whistle, but Rock were the deserved winners.
Glenellly GFC would just like to thank Rock for a sporting game and congratulations!!
