Yesterday seen the Under 16 girls secure their place in the Grade 2 League Final after a 9 point victory over St Macartans in Plumbridge. After an eptic battle Glenelly did themselves proud and now find themselves in the final with Arboe

Glenelly started of the stronger team and lead throughout the first quarter but St Macartans battled their way back into the game. Some sharp shooting from Aisling O’Kane helped Glenelly stay ahead. Glenelly’s back line held up to the tests of St Macartans midfielders towering through. Some good moves between Anna Mc Cullagh and Laura Mc Cullagh resulted in some fine scores.  The back line was kept tight with Niamh Linsday and Lucy Mc Cullagh. St Macartans battled well in the first half to try and topple Glenelly but some good interchanges from Shauna Mc Cullagh to Aisling O’Kane made their battle harder. Aileen Hacket showed great free taking ability when she knocked over some points from difficult angles.

In the second half Glenelly’s sprit grew stronger and their ambition to get to the league final showed. Each and every player battled well to get the ball and make good use of it. Anna Hicks for Glenelly was making some great blocks while Danielle Shields for St Macartans was causing some trouble for Glenelly.  Shauana Mc Cullagh came up strong and struck the back of the net and shortly after Patrica Morris did the same. This put the game out of St Macartans  reach.

Glenelly finished the game out strong evident of the 9 point lead when the final whistle blew.  Final score in Plumbridge was Glenelly 4-7 St Macartans  1-7.

Well done to all those who are involved with the girls and the club wishes them all the best in the final!!!
