Sunday saw the reserves take on Owen Roes to gain their first win of the season. The game started off well from a Glenelly prospective with Eunan Lindsay slotting home a goal just seconds in to the game. Owen Rose fought back hard and scored some good points, however excellent defensive work from Gary McGlinchey, Eugene McCullagh and Martin McGrinder meant the ball couldn’t find its way near the Glenelly Nets and they had to settle for points.
Just as things were starting to luck better for Owen Roes Tony McGrinder then fisted home another goal to put Glenelly well in front. Owen Roes fought back hard but just before half time they were denied a penalty due to a superb save by Paul McCullagh who then also denied the rebound before the defence closed in. The half time score Glenelly 2-1 Owen Rose 0-6. The second half once again saw Glenelly come out hard with Seamus Kirk converting a well struck penalty while Noel O’Kane popped over a free kick to put Glenelly well in head. After this the home side found it difficult to win mid-field balls and Owen Roes had a great chance to come back into the game. They fought hard but couldn’t seem to hit the target. Paul McCullagh then produced another fine save to keep Glenelly on top. Some tactical substitutes were then used and the ball was worked from mid-field to be put in the Owen Roes net for the fourth time. This time by Brian Kerrigan. Final Score Glenelly 4-3 Owen Rose 0-8
