Saturday came, and another home fixture for the Seniors (men) with table toppers Stewartstown coming to Plumbridge thinking they would get 2 easy points
This wasn't the case when Glenelly gave them a hard battle for every ball. This was against a strong Stewartstown side who seemed more physical. The first half was very tight although Glenelly were finding it difficult to get in a scoring pattern but kept up with the pace. Unfortunately Glenellys goalkeeper miscaculated the ball and left Stewartstown with an easy goal, but in response to this Glenelly went to the other side of the pitch and got a point.
Glenelly got refocused again in the second half and brought the game to Stewartstown. The game was very tight until the last 10 minutes when substitute Kevin Mc Anena got sent off for his second yellow card. A wonderfully hit point by Glenelly's right-half-back Seamus Mc Bride helped Glenelly stay on track but Stewartstown wasn't to be stopped. Conal Mc Cullagh was very unlucky when his goal shot hit of the post and was deflected. Glenelly were unlucky as they were hitting of the post and going out while at the opposite side Stewartstown were hitting of the post and going in. Glenelly keeper redemed him self by the amazing saves and the kick-outs, he was keeping Glenelly in the game. But the hard fought game seen Glenelly stay at the bottom of the table and Stewartstown go home with a hard fought two-points.
Glenelly team: Mickey Mc Bride Joe Mc Cullagh Gary Mc Glinchey Oliver Mc Bride Seamy Mc Bride Mickey Nichloas John Mc Cullagh Ciaran Kearney Owen Mc Closkey Paddy Nicholas Cathal Nicholas Simon Ciarns Stephen Mc Bride Eunan Lindsay Conal Mc Cullagh
The reserve side was weak with them struggling to score, wile Stewartstown were scoring at ease. Unfortunatly Glenelly got beat but theres always next week, an away fixture takes them up to Killyman. |
