Fintona prove to strong for this developing Glenelly team, a drizzling performance seen Glenelly get beat in the both games.
Fintona began brightly and opened their account with a point from D Mc Goldrick. However the home side came back quickly and were rewarded with a free which was converted by Cathal Nicholas at full forward. A further pointed free from Nicholas forced the home side into the lead. Good work from Mark Donnelly in the full forward berth for Fintona saw Mark Welsh released to point from play on the left. A further point from Mark Donnelly forced Fintona into the lead again, a lead which was further reinforced with a further point from Seamus Mc Carron. Fintona were dominating the play at this stage and some good work from S Mc Carron and Mark Donnelly set up Aidan Reid to take a point. A further score resulted when a free was awarded to Fintona on this occasion Aidan Mc Carron pointed from some 45 metres. A further free from Aidan Mc Carron out on the left put Fintona five points ahead. Glenelly replied with a point from Paddy Bradley from out on the right. This was followed up when the lively Nicholas pointed from a free to close the gap to three points. The Glenelly come back was short lived as Mark Donnelly pointed for the visitors to increase the gap. Although Fintona continued to dominate possession they shot three wides in succession before John Early playing in midfield knocked over a fine point from the right. A point from Mark Donnelly closed the scoring before the half-time whistle. Half Time 0-10 to 0-06.
A bright start to the second half by the home team saw the lively Cathal Nicholas put over a fine point from play. Fintona sent two opportunities wide before Aidan Mc Carron pointed to restore the advantage. Glenelly were not to be outdone and a further point from Nicholas was followed by a score from K Mc Anenely, saw the gap narrowed again. A further point from A Mc Carron was followed by a fine score from B Cassidy who surged forward from the half-back position to receive a ball from D Mc Goldrick. Not to be outdone Kevin Mc Girr surged forward from his position in the half-back line to point following a good save from the home keeper. The back line was increasingly being pulled forward by Glenelly in their attempts to gain possession. This resulted in Fergal Mc Cann scoring a point after being put through with good work from Mark Donnelly. Glenelly replied with a further free from Nicholas. Connor Fleming had come on for A Reid in the final quarter and some good work from Connor allowed him to release S Mc Carron to put Fintona eight points in the lead. The match was essentially over at this stage and a late rally by Glenelly produced points for S Harkin and Cathal Nicholas to leave the final score ; Fintona 0-16 to Glenelly’s 0-10.
